Description
This test measures the level of Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) in the blood. IGF-1 is a hormone produced by the liver, muscle, and other tissues in response to Growth Hormone (GH) production by the pituitary gland and is vital for normal tissue and bone growth and development. IGF-1 typically mirrors GH levels. Because IGF-1 levels are more stable than GH levels, measuring IGF-1 can be useful for determining average GH levels. Measuring IGF-1 can be useful for evaluating deficiency or excess of Growth Hormone as well as evaluating pituitary function as Well as Biologically Aging a Person
Turnaround time for the IGF-1 test is typically 3-5 business days.
This test is used to measure Cortisol levels in the blood. Cortisol blood testing is usually ordered to aid in the diagnosis of conditions related to the adrenal and pituitary glands such as Addison’s Disease, Cushing’s Syndrome, Adrenocortical Insufficiency or Hypersecretion.
Cortisol is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. Proper Cortisol levels are important for helping the body to maintain a number of functions such as blood pressure, glucose levels, immune response, and stress management.
Symptoms which may indicate irregular Cortisol levels include:
- Unusually high or low blood pressure
- High blood sugar
- Obesity
- Fragile skin
- Purple streaks on the abdomen
- Muscle wasting and weakness
- Osteoporosis
- Weight loss
- Fatigue
- Abdominal pain
- Dark patches of skin
This test uses a single blood draw. Cortisol levels normally rise and fall during the day so the time the collection is taken should be considered when interpreting the results. Conditions such as pregnancy, elevated stress levels, certain medications and hormone therapy can all affect Cortisol levels. It is important to take these into account when results are interpreted.
Turnaround time for the Cortisol blood test is typically 2-3 business days.
